In Christ I Am Not Intimidated

October 4, 2016

A Governor who was running hard for re-election arrived late at a barbecue. He’d had no breakfast and no lunch and he was famished. As he moved down the serving line, he held out his plate and received one piece of chicken. The Governor said to the serving lady, “Excuse me, do you mind if I get another piece of chicken. I’m very hungry.” The women replied, “Sorry, I’m supposed to give one piece to each person.” He repeated, “But I’m starved,” and again she said, “Only one to a customer.” He was normally a modest man, but he decided this was his time to use the weight of his office and said, “Madam do you know who I am? I am the governor of this state.” She answered, “Do you know who I am? I’m the lady in charge of the chicken. Now move along mister.”

This was a woman who knew her position and wasn’t about to be intimidated.

If you know Christ, you don’t need to be intimidated either. The Father has positioned you in heavenly places with Christ (Ephesians 2:6), and has in fact, made you a joint heir with Him (Gal 4:7). You might say that’s “incredible,” that you “don’t deserve it,” and you’d be right. But by His grace, He has made it possible, that sinners may become sons.

When I discover the depth of God’s love for me, and the magnificence of His creation when He made “me,” it is impossible for it not to change the way I live. Rather than approaching life as one who “shrinks back,” intimidated by fear and despair, Paul declares rather that we are “those who believe and are saved.” (Hebrews 10:39)

I believe and am saved. What do I believe? I believe that the all-knowing, all-powerful, never-changing God of Love, who created the universe and said that it was “Good!” also made me. I believe I was meant for perfection, created for eternity, but I was also flawed through sin. The Father had a plan to deal with the sin, a plan to cleanse me of the sin, and heal my flaws, so that I would no longer have to shrink back and be destroyed, but could believe and be saved. I am not just saved from death I am saved for His purpose. I am a joint heir with Him, part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and that is who I am… and that is why, like the chicken lady, I am not intimidated.
